Uncertainty – Don’t panic..

Today we live in this unprecedented time. I see a lot of uncertainty around. Some fear losing their job, some fear they may be susceptible to the virus, some are away from their families. The new normal is very different than what you and I are used to. Change is the only constant thing!

Over the past few weeks, we hear in news or read online, about many companies, across multiple industries revising their forecasts for 2020. Layoffs, office space lease cuts, etc.. are the ways these companies are cutting expenses. Some companies had to file for bankruptcy. In these difficult times, my heart goes out to the people who have been affected by this.

Having seen this very closely in my family and at work, the advice I have is to follow a 4 step process. This will help you be ready to respond to change/unknown always.

Networking – As you are working, know the people in your company, in your industry, in you city, state and country. Every year make a long lasting meaningful connection. Keep in touch with your older ones. These connections are to be cherished forever.

Know your market worth – Always keep an eye out for what’s the latest trend in the industry. Know what other companies are looking for while hiring talent.

Skill building – Keep challenging yourself every day. Keep learning latest trends, technologies, tricks that will add value to your resume. You will grow as a human both professionally and personally.

Mental toughness – Finally but most importantly, don’t panic. No matter what curve ball life throws at you, there is always a way out. Think outside the box. Life has two rules: 1. Never quit. 2. Always remember rule #1.

In summary, this phase shall pass too. Just be confident in your abilities!
